Boat Racing Officials Required |
|   |
|   |
During the course of the rowing season, there are several regattas in which rowers from the various rowing clubs do battle on the river.    So during the regatta there are the rowers competing, but we also need committed individuals who are willing to officiate the races.    Currently Rowing WA is responsible for providing the officials to umpire and judge the races.    This is a tiring responsibility, and over time the number of boat racing officials has not increased.    In order to increased the number of boat racing officials, Rowing WA has started an initiative to encourage members of the various rowing clubs to assist.    In 2008, this was achieved by deduction of regatta points.    While for 2009, further sanction will be implemented by disallowing rowing clubs who do not offer their quota of boat racing officials from competing at the regatta.
This invariably will present a predicament for the smaller rowing clubs, such as Murdoch University Rowing Club.    So we are looking for individuals who would like to represent Murdoch University Rowing Club in the role of a Boat Racing Official (BRO).    Rowing WA provides a course which involves on the water training, a written exam, and a final board exam.
Individuals interested in becoming boat racing officials should email us.

Freedom on the River: WA Rowing for the Disabled Requires Safety Boat Driver and Volunteers |

|   |
Freedom on the River (FOTR) is the adaptive rowing program run at the Canning Bridge Rowing Centre.    This club specifically caters for individuals with varying levels of special need.    It has been based at Canning Bridge since 1988, and was the pilot program used to commence adaptive rowing in Australia.    Most of the operations of this club are run by a group of family members, carers, and volunteers.
Currently the club is looking for individuals who are able to drive a motor boat which is being used for safety purposes during the rowing sessions.
The club is always looking for volunteers to assist in the running of the rowing sessions, so if you have time to spare, your help would be gratefully received.
