event overview |

Rowing is a precision sport that attracts people who aim for the best in all that they do. It is the ultimate team sport. In the boat there are no individuals. Maximum speed is achieved by perfect unison.

Murdoch University Rowing Club aims to give leading businesses a unique team building exercise by conducting its annual corporate regatta. Experienced volunteers coach teams of four for three weeks in the basics of rowing. At the end of the final week, teams race head to head in a regatta, followed by a gala presentation dinner.

Companies can maximize their experience by encouraging their clients or competitors to take part along side them. Fierce rivalry can also give opportunities for networking as companies show their strength on and off the water. For some it’s fast and furious, others row merrily, but win or lose it’s great fun.

Rowing encourages self-discipline, goal setting and fitness. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned competitor, all members of your organisation will feel the benefits of participation.

Crews

Crews of four persons may be entered in the following categories:

  • Mens
  • Womens
  • Mixes (2 men, 2 women)

To make things fairer, companies are requested to enter crews that have a maximum of 2 experienced crew members.

Training

Each crew attends two training sessions per week for three weeks (total six sessions). Morning and evening training sessions are available.

Monday - Friday

Morning: 5:30am - 7:00am

Evening: 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Every effort will be made to accommodate preferred training days, however some flexibility is required. All four crew members need to be present at training and prompt arrival is appreciated. In exceptional circumstances, replacement crew members may take part in training, but this may interrupt a crew’s preparation.

Regatta and Presentation Dinner

This is where the competition heats up. The carnival atmosphere starts early in the day as each company sets up their tents. Each crew will participate in heats in their category before progressing to the finals. Who will make it across the line in style?

After packing up and having a well earned afternoon nap, crews return to the riverside for an evening of good food and good company as the stars reflect on the Canning. Medals are presented to winning crews in each category and the champion overall company will receive a magnificent trophy to display for one year.
