Anyone who has carried their boat to the water while the stars are still out knows that
rowing is an art. Murdoch University Rowing Club is celebrating 10 years of teamwork and dedication by inviting artists to
create works of art from old boating equipment.
Dwellingup School of Wood graduates Brendan Jurich and Richard Cooper
and self taught craftsman Bede Tannock have taken up the challenge of creating furniture from the shell of an eight. Sculptor
Jon Denaro is also working with a section of eight together with pieces of rigger, slide and seat. Stained glass artist
Richard Apel has enlisted the help of cabinet maker John Brassington to create a unique table inlaid with glass from the final
piece of eight.
The river of creative energy doesn’t stop there. Eight more artists have wooden oar blades to paint or
sculpt. Daveena Cox, Dr. John Fairhall, Sam Fenton, Inta Goddard, Matthew Jackson, Bec Juniper, Oliver Sage and Eva Varga have
all generously offered their talents to the club.
Profiles of each artist can be viewed in the artist's
biography section.
